Weyrling Training Guide: Months 7-9

MONTH 7: Start the mid-air drills this month. Basically, they're the ground drill formations done in flight.

*Sevenday 25: Elevator duty: Weyrlings ferry non-rider personnel between levels. Dragon toss continued.

*Sevenday 26: Extended flying. Begin exploring strengths and weaknesses. (i.e., one pair will be faster, one has longer endurance, etc.) Dragon toss in Hunting: Weyrling pairs hunt for themselves, accompanied by adult dragons at first. Bronze and Brown Weyrlings, in preparation for their later possible advancement to Wingleader or Wingsecond are taught basic diplomacy and leadership skills, how to lead a Wing, including (practiced with their Weyrling Class as their Wing) leading Drills, maintaining discipline in a Wing, appropriate disciplinary measures for various problems, when to appeal to a higher authority. Also taught is basic (theoretical) tactics for leading a Wing in Fall, including dealing with injuries and the gaps they leave in a formation, which formations are best against which sorts of Falls etc. (continues until graduation)

*Sevenday 27: Practising drill formations in mid-air. Starts with groups of five again.

*Sevenday 28: Drills in mid-air, double up to groups of ten.

MONTH 8: Drills. Need I say more? Dragon Healing: Advanced first aid: Includes treatments for cuts and gashes, recognizing stretched/torn muscles and ligaments, torn wingsails, broken bones. Fly straight to unknown destinations, obtain visual, and go between back to the Weyr.

*Sevenday 29: Mid-air drills fully replace ground drills. Dragonhealing advanced first aid: Practice in two groups. Treatment for cuts and gashes. Fly straight to unknown destination, obtain visual, and go between back to the Weyr.

*Sevenday 30: Practice in two groups again. Dragonhealing advanced first aid: recognizing stretched/torn muscles and ligaments. Fly straight to unknown destination, obtain visual, and go between back to the Weyr.

*Sevenday 31: The class practices as a whole. Dragonhealing advanced first aid: torn wingsails. Fly straight to unknown destination, obtain visual, and go between back to the Weyr.

*Sevenday 32: And even more practice. The class begins preparing to go /between/, practising visualizations. Dragonhealing advanced first aid: broken bones. Fly straight to unknown destination, obtain visual, and go between back to the Weyr.

MONTH 9: Begin going /between/ The first time a pair goes /between/, the weyrlingmaster goes along with them to guide them and make sure they aren't lost.

*Sevenday 33: More work on visualizations. Fly straight to unknown destination, obtain visual, and go between back to the Weyr.

*Sevenday 34: Begin going /between/ to Star Stones.

*Sevenday 35: Start practising going /between/ from various areas of the Weyr to Star Stones.

*Sevenday 36: Practice /betweening/ Fly straight to various places, beginning with areas around Lakeside, then transfer /between/ back to the Weyr.
